Faes: The Perfect Night

The Foxes have been in brilliant form since ending a six-game losing streak in the Premier League, going on to secure six wins in all competitions since the start of October, climbing from bottom to 13th in the table.

It's a run which has also included seven clean sheets in nine matches and coincides with Faes' arrival from Reims at the end of the summer transfer window. James Maddison and Harvey Barnes netted in the win at London Stadium on Saturday.

"It’s the perfect way [to sign off for the World Cup]," Faes told LCFC TV in the capital. "We wanted to go out with a win to go into the World Cup – and for the other guys, into the holidays – with a win and we did it.

"The mentality [was key] and the grit and fighting together. After that, with the ball, the ones who came off the bench to help us, they made the difference.

It was important for us to start defending all together and really have that grit to be willing to keep the zero. That is what we’re doing.

"It was the perfect night. We had to keep focused for 95 minutes and I think we did that. We won and we have another clean sheet so that’s very good. We defend well and, with the ball, we have the quality.

"It was important for us to start defending all together and really have that grit to be willing to keep the zero. That is what we’re doing."

Faes' partnership with Daniel Amartey has been a big factor in City's upturn in fortunes. The Belgium international, though, says it is a collective effort.

"You can see that we understand each other very well," Leicester's No.3 added. "We help each other on the pitch, but it’s not only me and him. Wardy (Danny Ward) is doing an amazing job since I got here and all the team is defending together.

Goals - Maddison & Barnes On Target

Enjoy the goals from London Stadium as James Maddison and Harvey Barnes strike in a 2-0 victory for Leicester City.

"You can see that we want to keep the zero and, afterwards, we want to play football because that’s what the fans like."

Faes will join Foxes team-mates Youri Tielemans and Timothy Castagne among Belgium's squad for the World Cup in Qatar this week. Naturally, the one-capped centre-back can't wait for the tournament.

"It’s very exciting to be there," he explained. "To be called up is an honour. Now, tomorrow (Sunday) is a rest day and then, from Monday, it’s 100 per cent focus on the World Cup.

"Let’s hope we get as far as possible. We’re going to Kuwait to play a friendly game and then, afterwards, we go to Qatar."
