Making his third appearance for the Foxes, the former Aston Villa youngster performed admirably in testing conditions at Priestfield Stadium. Kelechi Iheanacho's 56th-minute strike settled matters against the fourth-tier hosts.

One of eight changes to the XI from last week's 1-0 reverse to Fulham in the Premier League, Brunt and his team-mates had to dig deep to see off the Gills in front of a lively home crowd in Kent.

"It was certainly tough," the 22-year-old told LCFC TV. "I thought we fought as a team. They certainly threw the kitchen sink [at us], but it was a good performance and [it's] good to be through.

Brunt: We Fought As A Team

"When teams go as a five, it's really tough to break down, but we've got great quality in the team and Kels' is obviously is a great finish at the end. [When you] come to tough grounds in the lower leagues, it's always going to be tough, it's always going to be a fight. But I thought the lads dealt with it really well, and we're really happy to be through."

Brunt was grateful for the opportunity in his second start for the Foxes, and he explained what it means to be feature in the first team.

"It's a great opportunity," he added. "I'll always work as hard as I can when opportunities like this come around. The gaffer just said 'go out there and play your normal game, play what you're used to' and obviously 'stick to the game plan'. I thought I did that so I'm happy.

I'm in and around the first team every day in training, waiting for my opportunity in games but at the minute, I'm loving my football.

"At the minute, I'm absolutely loving it. I'm in and around the first team every day in training, waiting for my opportunity in games but at the minute, I'm loving my football."

On who he hopes City draw in the fourth round, Brunt added: "Obviously, you've still got Aston Villa in there. That would be a good one, but let us just wait and see!"
