Dan Burn and Joelinton netted in the North East to seal safe passage for Eddie Howe's men, who dominated for long spells. Jamie Vardy went close late on for the Foxes, but it wasn't to be on a disappointing night.

"I don’t think we deserved to take anything out of the game if I’m honest," Albrighton told LCFC TV.

"I think they were the better side from start to finish. We rode our luck a little bit in the first half, the early stages, and we then came back into the game at the end of the first half, the last 15 minutes.

They had the crowd behind them and it was difficult for us to get any hold of the game.

"In the second half, again, they were the better side I thought. We had a couple of chances towards the end, but ultimately the game was more or less gone. They created more. They got themselves into better positions.

"They had the crowd behind them and it was difficult for us to get any hold of the game. They got into some good positions and created some good chances. I don’t think we can have too many arguments."

Albrighton says City must be much better at the weekend when they travel to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

"We had a good couple of chances towards the end, but we need to be better at the start," he added. "It’s okay having those chances towards the end but if you go 2-0 down against any team, it’s always going to be difficult to come back from that.

"It’s disappointing from our point of view, but we’ve got to pick ourselves up – and we will pick ourselves up. We’ve got a big game at the weekend. It’ll be a very difficult challenge. We know what to expect from them.

"It's going to be a really difficult game and we’ve got to start well, stick together, and be a unit – have each other’s backs and really push to fight for one another and get a result."
