Wolverhampton Wanderers – another team who have been embroiled in a fight for survival near the foot of the table – are the visitors to King Power Stadium on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off. It’s a game which carries major significance.

Positioned inside the relegation zone with seven games remaining this term, the priority is clear for the Foxes, as Souttar explained when taking time out from pre-match preparations to sit down with LCFC TV.

“It’s a massive next three games," the centre-back said, at LCFC Training Ground. “Not only for us the players but for the fans, for the backroom staff and for the Club itself. We know how important it is and we’re doing everything we can to stay in the division.

“We know it’s not been a good enough season from everybody, but we are in this position and it’s our responsibility and our job to get us out of it. You see some teams winning and moving three or four places up the table.

“But I’ve said many times before, it’s all about taking it a game at a time – that’s all we can do. We can’t look to anybody else losing, we’ve got to focus on ourselves and what we’re doing because we need to put points on the board now.

“We need to start winning games, it’s as simple as that, and that starts on Saturday against Wolves.”

Reflecting on the 3-1 reverse at Manchester City last time out, the defender felt he learned a lot from taking on the title-chasers, but accepts that Leicester’s all-round game must continue to improve.

It’s been tough with the results, but the new manager and staff have given the boys a lift.

The January recruit explained: “It was obviously a disappointing result and one we weren’t hoping for or wanting, but we’ve got to find the positives of the second-half performance to take into the weekend.

“We all know the first half wasn’t good enough, we make no bones about it. We’ll need to improve on that front, but we created a number of chances in the second half and were unlucky not to come away with something there.”

This weekend’s encounter with Julen Lopetegui’s side marks Dean Smith's first home fixture in charge of the Club. Supported by Craig Shakespeare and John Terry, Souttar believes the trio have had a positive impact on the whole squad.

“It’s been tough with the results, but the new Manager and staff have given the boys a lift,” the 24-year-old admitted. “He’s come in and been very positive about the group and the training intensity has been really high. He’s told us exactly what we need to do to stay up.

All four Leicester City goals from a 4-0 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

“It’s been a good week with some really tough days and some tactical days on how we wants us to play as a group. Obviously Shakey (Shakespeare) being here before and winning the league, everyone’s happy to see him back and just the positivity that they’ve given around the group is certainly something that moving forward we’ll need.

“When my age group grew up watching Premier League football, (Terry) has been the standout centre-half and the one that we all looked up to being defenders, so it's been great having him in and working under him.

“Obviously, he’s only been here a week-and-a-half, but just to pick his brains about different situations and what he thinks I could do better or what I’ve done well. I’m looking forward to the future.”
