‘Immense Character’ – Iheanacho’s Post-Wolves Pride

Leicester City’s togetherness and fight was on the full display during the 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to Kelechi Iheanacho.

- Kelechi Iheanacho scored from the spot before Timothy Castagne’s winner
- The forward gave LCFC TV his post-match reaction after a crucial three points
- That victory moves the Foxes out of the relegation zone

The Foxes had to come from behind on Filbert Way, trailing to a first-half Matheus Cunha goal before Jamie Vardy was tripped by José Sá inside the area. Iheanacho stepped up to convert a pressure penalty, drawing City level.

It remained that way until the final quarter of an hour, when Timothy Castagne latched onto a Victor Kristiansen cross to hand Leicester the lead and ultimately a potentially crucial three points.

Speaking to LCFC TV following full-time, the Nigeria international felt a mixture of relief and pride to assist City’s quest for points in Dean Smith’s first game in charge at King Power Stadium.

“It’s a breath of fresh air,” he stated. “We really dug in well to get the three points. We really worked hard to get them. We have a strong character and obviously when we went a goal down, we didn’t stop pressing, we didn’t stop playing.

“We kept going and kept pushing each other to get the goal. We are really happy, sticking together as a group, doing this together with everybody - the staff, the players and the fans. We’re all proud and hopefully we keep that form in the next game.

“I think it’s mixed feelings because obviously we haven’t won in a long time and I think this gives the fans hope, the Football Club hope and it gives everyone hope to keep supporting, because so many people had doubted about our qualities, our togetherness and our football, everything. But today we showed character to win the game.”

The 25-year-old was the coolest man in the stadium to send Sá the wrong way from 12 yards and get Leicester back on level terms. It was his fifth Premier League goal of the campaign and second in as many games, but few have meant more than that one. He’s already looking ahead to another pivotal fixture in three days’ time, against Leeds United at Elland Road. The Yorkshire side are also embroiled in the relegation battle.

City Dig In For Wolves Success

Watch the goals from Leicester City's essential 2-1 victory over Wolves at King Power Stadium.

The former Manchester City striker explained: “I was confident, I was calm, but there is always pressure when you want to take a penalty because you don’t know if you’re going to miss or score so luckily I scored and got the goal.

“Together we did it. Vards (Vardy) got the penalty and he did really well, making a good run to get us a penalty to get back in the game.

“I don’t mind where I play, whether it’s up front, or No.10 or on the wing. I just need to help my team to get the points that we need. Together we can do it. We just stick together.

“We are going to enjoy it, but we need to focus on the next game now. Hopefully we keep the momentum going into the next game and keep winning.”
