Maresca: Akgün Awaiting Fitness Assessment
- Enzo Maresca speaks ahead of Tuesday's clash with Sunderland
- Yunus Akgün is a doubt for the clash with the Black Cats through injury
- Tom Cannon and Kasey McAteer are approaching recoveries from their issues
The Turkey international was withdrawn after initially coming off the bench during Saturday’s 3-1 success at Swansea City – keeping the Foxes top of the Sky Bet Championship and securing a Club-record sixth successive away win.
Akgün, who scored for Turkey on international duty this month, will be assessed by the Club’s medical team, but Manager Enzo Maresca says it’s doubtful he’ll be available for Sunderland. The Black Cats visit Filbert Way on Tuesday evening.
Hopefully it’s nothing serious. Tomorrow, for sure, he's out. Hopefully, it's not a long time.

“He is doing a scan now,” Maresca told the media on Monday. “In a bit, we are going to have some more news. Tomorrow is complicated. I don’t think so. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. Tomorrow, for sure, he's out. Hopefully, it's not a long time.”
Tom Cannon, signed from Everton in the summer, is awaiting his Club debut after an injury, while Kasey McAteer is also out following a five-goal start to 2023/24 for the Academy graduate. There was promising news from the Manager, though, on Monday.
“Tom and Kasey are very close,” the Italian explained. “Hopefully at the end of this week, or next week, they can start with us.”
Discussing possible rotation of his XI, Maresca added: “We'll see. We have a session today. I want to see how they come back. If there are some of them who are tired, we'll see in today's session, and then decide.”
