The Foxes topped Group A of the Premier League Cup with seven points from three games, progressing through to the knockout stages of the competition following Saturday's six-goal thriller with the Seagulls at LCFC Training Ground, a fixture which saw own goals, a red card and a penalty.

“It was a game that had everything,” City's coach stated. “A proper cup game and one that had lots of incidents but one that ultimately saw us top the group and go through to the next round, which we’re delighted with.

“In the first half, we were outstanding, and we were so dominant. It was an impressive performance by the team, and then in the second half, Brighton needed to beat us, so they went for it.

“Even though we conceded a penalty late on, the team did well and showed some great defensive work to see the result across the line.”

Progressing to the knockout stage will invite further tests for the young Foxes, and the coach hopes to see similar displays to the one they put in against Brighton, as the squad continue to develop throughout the campaign.

Barradell continued: “We’ve had a good run in the Premier League Cup and it’s pleasing to go through unbeaten, but it’s even more pleasing to see the individual performances and how dominant we were.

“We’ve come back from losing quite a few times this year already, so that shows the good character and resilience in them. We should’ve been three or four goals up in the first half, but unfortunately were punished.

“The group have got some exciting games coming up, both in the cup and league, so I’m excited to see how we can stretch and push these players on.

“We’ve got a really engaged group that want to be tested in how we set up and play. They’re a group which is full of individuals who want to push on so they’re really positive on the pitch and we want to carry that on.”
