Last weekend saw the Leicester City Under-18s qualify to the knockout stages of the Premier League Cup, after clinching top spot in Group A with seven points from three games, which was concluded with a 3-3 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.

After suffering with an injury that has kept him sidelined for periods of this season, the Ivorian forward was delighted to get on the scoresheet, and play his part in getting Leicester through to the latter stage of the competition.

“I was injured before the Brighton game, so that was my one of my first games back,” Toure told LCFC.com. “I was happy to score because it’s an important competition for us, and I’m happy that we managed to finish top of the group.

“The goal was from very good play, it was a team effort, and I’m happy it led to us qualifying for the next round. There’ll be more to come.

“It was all about belief. When we were 2-1 down, we knew we just had to keep going. We were on them from the start, and had quite a lot of control, and lots of chances which we unfortunately couldn’t take.

“In the second half, we changed it up a little bit and tried to get more efforts on target. The game plan was to combine well in midfield and get the most out of our full-backs.

“We did that very well, and we were unlucky to concede a penalty at the end of the game, but a draw was enough to get the job done and qualify which was the most important thing.”

Keen to challenge for the cup competition, the young striker stated that lifting the trophy is the end goal this term, but talked about how focus is on a tough fixture coming up in the league.

They’re a good side so it’s not going to be easy, but we need to show a good performance and get the three points.

West Ham are currently third in the table and on home soil will prove a tough test for Leicester, but Toure is confident in his side's ability, and believes a win is possible should the team stick together.

He added: “Our target is to win it, and whoever we face next, we need to make sure we perform well, listen to our coaches, stick to the game plan and make sure we’re hard to play against.

“We’re feeling ready ahead of West Ham. We want to put them in a tough situation. They’re a good side so it’s not going to be easy as they’re third in the league, but we need to show a good performance to get the three points.

“As a collective, we need to be better on the ball and press at the right time. For myself, as a striker, I need to lead from the front and combine well with my strike partner, whoever that is. We need to take our chances and do the basics right.

“My aim this season is to get as many goals as I can. I’m always wanting to score so that’s my target. As a team, we’d like to win a trophy, that’s what we’re here for and if we believe in ourselves and play as a team, then I think that is possible.”
