The Zambian notched his maiden Sky Bet Championship strike on his first league start of 2023/24, helping the Foxes to remain top of the table ahead of the midweek fixtures.

He’s had to be patient, but grasped the opportunity with both hands, looking as calm as ever in front of goal as he converted a chance shortly after the break.

“It was a great afternoon,” the forward said following full-time on Filbert Way. “I've been waiting for this opportunity to come. I knew it was coming, everyone knew it was coming. It was just a matter of time and I'm happy that it has happened.

Patson Daka vs. Plymouth Argyle

Patson Daka got up and running for the season with this strike during the home victory over Plymouth Argyle.

“I’m glad that I was able to contribute to the team's victory. For me, I'm always staying ready, so I don't have to be ready and I just had to do my best to help the team.”

The biggest victory for Leicester since October last year, Daka saw it as a big confidence boost to win by such a margin.

He continued: “I think the first target is to win as many games as possible and how many goals we score really comes in later. But it's very important that we are very much clinical in front of goal.

“I think it helps at the end of the season to see how many goals you have scored and we did our best to be clinical as much as we can. It's also great for the confidence of the team and for everyone else.”

Daka Happy To Contribute

Patson Daka reflects on his goalscoring return to the XI during Leicester City's 4-0 win over Plymouth Argyle.

The striker fitted into the system like he had been there all season, making vertical runs and dropping in to receive the ball and pull defenders out. The Manager was pleased with his efforts, he revealed.

The 25-year-old added: “He (Enzo Maresca) was just telling me he's happy for me and he's pleased that I gave my best because I've always shown it in training and he's happy that I've shown it again. I think he knows my quality, everybody knows my quality.

“It's also just a matter of recognising when to do it. I just have to keep on working hard, and we see what happens as we go on. It’s a different type of football that I'm used to so I'm adjusting, and I think so far I'm getting there and I have to do my best as much as I can.”
