Under-18s Report: West Bromwich Albion 2-3 Leicester City

Kairo Edwards-John struck from the penalty spot before efforts from Morgan Brown and Simran Thandi made sure of the points for the young Foxes in the West Midlands which means Trevor Peake’s men end the 2016/17 season with two wins, three draws and two defeats from their group stage fixtures. 

City went into the clash on the back of a 3-1 defeat by Newcastle United a fortnight beforehand. Earlier in the campaign, however, Sidnei Tavares and Khanya Leshabela got on the scoresheet for Leicester on Saturday 15 April to secure a 2-2 draw with eventual Group C winners Wolverhampton Wanderers.  

The following weekend, a trialist struck in the 55th minute to book a second point in seven days against Brighton and Hove Albion. Speaking this week, Peake reflected on the 2016/17 campaign, suggesting the experiences of this term will stand his young players in good stead over the coming years. 

“I’ve been very pleased with the application of the lads in testing circumstances,” he said. “We’ve faced various tests this season and, largely, we have been delighted with how they have faced up to them. With the way this season has turned out, we’re confident of improving next year.”
