Birch Continues Premier League Trophy Schools Tour

Children at Rowlatts Hill Primary were given an experience they will never forget when Leicester City Club Ambassador Alan Birchenall walked into assembly with the Premier League trophy.

Since the Foxes famously defied odds of 5,000/1 to lift the famous trophy aloft last May, the Club has visited more then 30 schools across the Leicestershire region with over 10,000 schoolchildren having the rare opportunity to relive that historic triumph in person.

The Birch, who played for City between 1971-77, had the unique honour of carrying the trophy from the tunnel at King Power Stadium to the podium before captain Wes Morgan and the title-winning squad were officially crowned champions of England 10 months ago.

Speaking to after posing for photographs with the children in Leicester city centre, he said: “It’s brilliant. It’s great for the Club and the community as well. I’m sure our Club has done justice to the triumph of last May. I had the unbelievable pleasure and honour of walking out with it.

“It’s unbelievable for the school. It’s something they’ll take with them for the rest of their lives. It’s great for our community. In life, you only get out what you put in. It doesn’t matter what your talent is, everybody has something. That's something the children can take away.

“The Club has embraced it and taken it on board. 10,000 children have actually been able to see the trophy, which means so much to this city. Children will go home this evening and tell their parents they’ve had their picture taken with the Premier League trophy.”

Alex Ashcroft, a teacher at Rowlatts Hill, echoed the Birch’s sentiments and said his pupils will take inspiration from City’s shock title triumph last season. “It’s a very important and valuable experience for them,” he said.

“Seeing the success of Leicester City winning the Premier League title last season gives them something to aspire to and proves anything is possible. Hopefully the kids here today will take that message and use it to help them make their dreams come true.

"Being a supporter and seeing your team do so well is fantastic. It’s fantastic for the city."
