Beaglehole: Youth League A Wonderful Test

- City fell to a 2-1 defeat against FC Porto with 

- The Foxes have not been beaten by more than one goal on their maiden campaign in the competition 

Steve Beaglehole says Leicester City Under-19s have learned a host of invaluable lessons after their final match in the UEFA Youth League ended with a narrow 2-1 reverse against FC Porto. 

The hosts scored through Ayoub and Joao Cardoso either side of Diogo Costa's second half own goal for the Foxes meaning Beaglehole’s side have not been beaten by more than one goal on their Youth League debut.

Speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, Beaglehole said: “I’m disappointed that it finished in defeat because I thought we were much better in the second half than we were in the first. 

“We changed the team around slightly and we got back in it at 1-1 but within seconds it was 2-1 which is frustrating. 

“I thought we did so well to get back in it and I honestly think we would have picked up a 1-1 result if we had controlled the match better after our equaliser. 

“We were in the ascendancy at that point. I’ve just said to the lads that the campaign has been fantastic, nobody has beaten us by more than one goal. 

“We’ve been in every game and all the teams we’ve played have experience playing at this level. 

“When you’re away from home, you may not have the ball for long periods and you have to try and keep it yourself. 

“Overall, I think we scored some great goals. We showed them the clips before the game, showing some of our counter-attacking skills and again towards the end we could have made it 2-2. 

“You’ve got to sit back sometimes. In every game we’ve played in this competition, however, we haven’t scored first and that’s something we need to work on.”
