Match Preview: Newcastle United vs. Leicester City

Read a full match preview on the Barclays Premier League game between Newcastle United and Leicester City at St James’ Park on Saturday 18 October.

Leicester City will look to continue their productive start to the Barclays Premier League season when they travel to St James’ Park on Saturday.
Nigel Pearson’s men came within 60 seconds of securing their third win of the campaign last time out against Burnley but an injury time free kick from Ross Wallace levelled the score at 2-2 at the death.
Showing frustration more than disappointment, the City players will look to claim all three points away from home against the Magpies for the first time since April 2000 when strikes from Tony Cottee and Robbie Savage secured a 2-0 win for Martin O’Neill’s side.
Former England centre-half Matt Upson remains a doubt for the trip up to the North as the defender continues his promising recovery from a foot injury while Zoumana Bakayogo is a long-term absencee after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament.

Meanwhile, Alan Pardew’s side will aim to register their first win of the Barclays Premier League season, and could jump out of the bottom three in the process.
The Toon twice came from behind last time out when a double from Papiss Cisse secured their fourth draw of the campaign against Swansea City.
Winless at home since beating Cardiff City 3-0 in May, Newcastle United will hope that the international break has treated the squad well despite several first team injuries.
Rolando Aarons (hamstring), Siem De Jong (thigh), Davide Santon (knee), Curtis Good (groin/pelvis) and Ryan Taylor (anterior cruciate ligament) are all doubts for Saturday’s game.
Speaking exclusively to Foxes Player after the 2-2 draw with Burnley, manager Nigel Pearson said: “It’s two points dropped for us really because we’ve been the side that has tried to be attack minded throughout.
“I could be critical if I wanted of our own players in terms of not maximising our own attacking situations enough, but ultimately we’ve been pegged back right at the death and it’s not given us a chance to respond.
“It’s disappointing but I am pleased with how the players have tried to go about it again. We’ve not quite showed the clinical finish we’ve had in other games but to score two goals at home again is a good indicator.
“Of course what we’ve got to do now is stop the goals at the other end, and unfortunately for us at the moment we seem to be giving away too many set plays.”
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew told BBC Sport after the draw with Swansea: “The players gave me everything and I don't think my worst critic would say they didn't.
"We're a better team than we're showing at the moment.
"The confidence will get better and this will give us belief.
"The players have been good in training. You can see on the pitch that they are under a little bit of stress but they responded really well."

Papiss Cisse has played just three Barclays Premier League games this season but has managed to net four times after scoring braces against Hull City and most recently Swansea City.
The Senegalese frontman joined Newcastle in January 2012 from Bundesliga outfit Freiburg and has since bagged 27 goals in 77 games for the Club.
Cisse boasts an impressive record of just over one goal in two goals for his country with figures of 15 in 29 for the Lions of Teranga.
Well aware of the clinical finisher’s ability, City’s defence will need to be on top form to thwart Pardew’s star man on Saturday afternoon.
