City Loan Stars Score Again

Two more of Leicester City’s young loan players found the back of the net for their clubs recently while seven other Foxes were also in action.

Under-21s midfielder Michael Cain fired in a late leveller for Walsall in their 2-2 draw with Tranmere in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area semi-final – the Saddlers eventually winning 5-4 on penalties.
Cain’s side found themselves 2-0 down in the first half after goals from Max Power and Kayode Odejayi but a strike from Anthony Forde and Cain’s 80th-minute equaliser completed the comeback.
The result means Dean Smith’s men will now face the winners of the other semi-final between Notts County and Preston North End on Tuesday 16 December in a two-legged regional final in January.
Meanwhile, Development Squad forward Jacob Blyth was on the score sheet for Burton Albion in their 1-1 draw with Exeter on Saturday.
After netting on the hour mark, Blyth’s side were denied a valuable three points in their League 2 clash when Christian Ribiero struck an equaliser with just three minutes to go.
The young striker will again hope to make an impact for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s men on Saturday when the Brewers host Hartlepool in the league.
Summer signing Tom Lawrence, who joined the Foxes from Manchester United in the summer, put in a good shift for Rotherham United in their 0-0 draw with Cardiff on Saturday.
The 20-year-old created a handful of goalscoring opportunities for the Championship outfit, eventually being substituted with a just a minute to go.
Lawrence could make his third appearance for the newly-promoted side when they host Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Over in Wales, Development Squad right-back James Pearson came on as a late substitute for Wrexham in their 3-1 FA Cup second round win over Maidstone on Saturday.
Emanuel Smith opened the scoring for Pearson’s side before two goals from Andy Bishop either side of an Alex Fisher strike for the opposition sealed the win.
Pearson will hope to get some more game time for Wrexham when they travel to Southport for an FA Trophy clash on Saturday.
Under-21s trio Adam Dawson, Marcel Barrington and Simonas Stankevicius have also made further appearances for Nuneaton Town.
Winger Dawson, who signed another one-month loan spell with the Club in late November, played 84 minutes in the 1-0 Conference Premier defeat to Alfreton last Saturday while Stankevicius came on as a substitute just after the hour mark and Barrington played the full 90 minutes in the loss.
Dawson also went on to play a full game in Nuneaton’s 3-1 league loss to Lincoln on Tuesday while Barrington and Stankevicius made appearances for the Foxes’ Development Squad in their 2-1 defeat to Leeds United in the U21 Premier League Cup on the same night.
All three will hope to be involved in Nuneaton’s FA Trophy fixture against Grimsby on Saturday at the James Parnell Stadium.
Goalkeeper Conrad Logan, on loan at Rochdale until January, has also gone on to make another appearance in a Dale shirt, keeping a clean sheet in a goalless draw with Aldershot on Sunday.
Making several key saves, Logan helped his side to secure a replay against the Shots next Tuesday after first facing Colchester in League 1 on Saturday.
Midfielder Paul Gallagher made his 23rd appearance of the 2014/15 campaign for Preston on Saturday, helping the Lilywhites to a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury in the FA Cup second round.
The Lancashire club went on to draw Championship outfit Norwich City in the third round – a tie that is set to be played on Saturday 3 January.
Preston host fellow high-fliers MK Dons on Saturday knowing a win for Gallagher’s club could take them to the top of the league.
