U21s Duo Halt League Leaders

Leicester City Development Squad pairing Adam Smith and Callum Elder steered Mansfield Town to their first point in four games after drawing 0-0 with League 2 leaders Wycombe on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Smith and defender Elder played 90 minutes in the goalless draw, and were pivotal in keeping a clean sheet for the Stags.
Having joined Adam Murray’s men on one-month loan deals earlier this month, Smith made a string of good saves in the draw, while Elder put in a fine shift at centre-half.
The shutout ended Mansfield’s three-game losing streak in time for their tough clash with fellow strugglers Carlisle next Saturday.
Meanwhile, Under-21s striker Jacob Blyth made his 23rd appearance of the season for Burton Albion in their 1-1 League 2 draw at York on Saturday.
The young forward, who has netted five times for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s men so far this campaign, saw his side concede with 20 minutes to go as Emile Sinclair put York in front.
But substitute Adam McGurk, who came on at half-time for the Brewers, scored with just three minutes to go, and in turn secured a point for his side.
After extending his loan deal until the end of the 2014/15 season earlier this month, Blyth will hope to be involved in Burton’s clash with fellow promotion hopefuls Bury on Saturday 31 January.
Under-21s striker Tom Hopper signed a one-month loan deal with Scunthorpe earlier this month, but his new side’s fixture was postponed due to Chesterfield’s involvement in the FA Cup Fourth Round.
Hopper, who scored on his debut for Scunthorpe, will aim to be involved in Tuesday’s League 1 clash with MK Dons as the Iron host Karl Robinson’s high-flying outfit.
Michael Cain, who also extended his loan deal until the end of the current campaign with Walsall, didn’t have a fixture this weekend due to the Saddlers’ involvement in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Cain has had a significant contribution in Walsall’s season, scoring three times in 19 appearances and helping them move away from the relegation zone and up into a comfortable mid-table position.
And the midfielder could make history with Dean Smith’s men as they hope to head to Wembley for the first time in their history.
Walsall are currently 2-0 up from the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Final first leg against Preston, and have put themselves in a favourable position to play at the famous stadium in the Final in March, with the second leg to be played on Tuesday night.
Jack Barmby’s Rotherham had no fixture at the weekend, but host Bolton in the Championship on Tuesday evening, with the winger hoping to make his third appearance for the Millers since joining on a one-month loan deal in early January.
Similarly, Adam Dawson’s Bristol Rovers also didn’t play. The Under-21s winger, who signed a one-month loan deal with the club earlier this month, will aim to be involved in the Saturday 31 January trip to Woking.
Meanwhile, midfielder Paul Gallagher scored his ninth goal of the 2014/15 campaign in a Preston shirt as the Lilywhites drew 1-1 with Sheffield United in the FA Cup Fourth Round at Deepdale.
Gallagher’s 30-yard free kick put Preston into the lead but Italian Diego De Girolamo equalised in the second half, forcing a replay at Bramall Lane.

In his 33rd appearance for Simon Grayson’s men, Gallagher could face fellow Fox Cain in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Final second leg on Tuesday.
