Winger Joe Dodoo says Leicester City’s Development Squad were unfortunate not to beat Middlesbrough after netting an equaliser late on in Monday’s 1-1 Barclays U21 Premier League draw.

The Foxes went 1-0 down in the first half following Tom McAloon’s strike, before Dodoo levelled matters with nine minutes to play with a well-taken goal.

That strike gave Steve Beaglehole’s outfit impetus, but they couldn’t break down the Middlesbrough defence for a second time and both sides shared the spoils.

Dodoo told Foxes Player HD: “In the first half they were on top but we changed the shape in the second half and put in a good performance to earn a draw.

“We were told to just settle down a bit more at half-time. They were dominating in the first half and we weren’t settling on the ball. We needed to pass the ball about more and get into the game. Luckily we got that on board and finally got our goal at the end.

“I was asking for the ball as much as possible on the left to my feet a lot if I could. Luckily I got the ball in some space and got a goal out of it, which is really pleasing.

“We could have definitely gone on to win the game. We had momentum after our goal and we got the draw but if we had enough time we might have scored the winner.”

Dodoo has been heavily involved with the first team this campaign, netting a hat-trick on his debut against Bury back in August and then made three further appearances for the Foxes before spending time on loan at the Shakers over November and December.

He added: “I’ve taken a lot [from training with the first team]. We train with quality players so you improve quickly. As long as I keep around the first team I’ll keep improving. I look forward to training and playing as well.

“I enjoy playing games and getting the match fitness. You can train as much as you want but sometimes you just need to play, so I’m happy to play [against Middlesbrough].”
