Leicester City’s Under-18s were narrowly beaten by Aston Villa in the Barclays U18 Premier League on Saturday at Belvoir Drive.

Trevor Peake’s outfit had a number of opportunities to break the deadlock at City’s category 1 training facility, but it was Aston Villa who took the lead after half-time.

It was a game which could have certainly gone either way, but a resolute defensive performance from Villa meant City couldn’t quite get the result they needed to qualify for the top four of the league’s second phase.

Under-18s manager Peake told LCFC.com after the game: “We conceded after 60 minutes. It wasn’t a pretty game as such given the weather conditions. The wind and rain affected things. We had the wind behind us in the first half but couldn’t convert.

“We still had the better chances in the second half, but Villa put their chance away, so it was a tight game. Neither ‘keeper made many saves over 90 minutes and we knew a goal after a goalless first half would be very important.”

Peake’s young Foxes next face a trip to Southampton on Saturday 13 February (12pm kick-off) in their final phase one U18 Premier League fixture.

Peake added: “We can’t now qualify in the top four for the second phase of the league, but we have a game against Southampton next.

“It will give us a chance to play a couple of the lads that haven’t had as much football as others this season. Every game has an objective and we of course want to win, so we won’t be easing up so to speak.

“The team will be a little more varied than other weeks, which is great because we want to get the lads as many minutes as possible from now until the end of the season.”
