Leonardo Ulloa has revealed that Leicester City’s remarkable run to the top of the Barclays Premier League table even has people in his native Argentina cheering the team on against West Brom tonight.

The Foxes sit two points clear at the summit after Ulloa’s goal just a minute from time handed them a 1-0 win over Norwich City at the weekend, but they face another stern test in the shape of an in-form Baggies side fresh from a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace.

It was a battle for City against Norwich last time out and they needed the full backing of the Blue Army to get them over the line, but afterwards, Ulloa spoke of the support the team has been receiving back home in Argentina too.

He told : “My feeling is very good because many people in Argentina speak about Leicester now, not just because they’re top of the league but because they’re a good team and play as a group.

“That’s important in Argentina and the people want Leicester to win.”

Among the Argentine admirers is a certain Esteban Cambiasso, who played a key role in City’s survival last term and Ulloa revealed that he still keeps tabs on the Foxes’ fortunes.

He added: “He’s happy for us because he knows the group, knows the Club and is so happy for us now. He told me this and I know he’s happy.

“He said congratulations for the goal [against Norwich] and that it was a good, important three points. He’s happy for me as well.”

With increased attention on the Foxes for their performances comes increased expectations, but Ulloa was again keen to underline that the team would not be swayed from their ‘one game at a time’ mentality.

“We don’t think about the title or the Champions League,” said Ulloa. “It’s just West Brom – the next game. That is our philosophy and the manager and the team know this. We think only of the next game.

“They (West Brom) have more confidence now because they won a game like us, but every game is so difficult and this is the same.

“They are a strong team, play well and they defend well. But we need to try to win this game because every game is so important.

“I think teams have a little more respect for us and that sometimes means more defenders or different tactics against us. We need to know this but also still play with our philosophy and our tactics exactly the same. If we can create goals or chances, that’s okay. If not we’ll change tactics.

“We need to try to keep a clean sheet in every game. It’s important and for the strikers it’s important to score the goals. Strikers need to score but we defend as well.”
