Peake: UEFA Youth League Will Provide A Fantastic Experience

- The young Foxes face Club Brugge on Tuesday at the Schiervelde Stadium (7pm CET kick-off) 

- Peake believes playing regular competitive fixtures is fantastic for the players’ development 

Trevor Peake says the UEFA Youth League will provide Leicester City’s Under-19s with some valuable experience, as they prepare to take on Club Brugge Under-19s on Tuesday night. 

The young Foxes get their Youth League campaign underway at the Schiervelde Stadium in Roeselare ahead of the first team’s clash with Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League the following evening. 

Peake and Steve Beaglehole’s outfit will consist of a blend of Under-18s and Under-23s players, who will all benefit from featuring against international opposition. 

“Obviously the players are really excited,” Peake told LCFC TV. “I’ve been at the Club for 13 years now and it’s the first time we’ve been involved in something so spectacular, so it’s there to be enjoyed. 

“Our Under-18s will make up a large part of the squad and then some of our Under-17s will also be involved alongside the Under-23s. 

“Some of the lads that have not long come out of school may also find that they’ll be travelling to, so the whole experience of being called-up and also mirroring the first team’s schedule and then watching them perform is something that hasn’t happened before. It’ll be fantastic. 

“It’s beneficial because we want competitive football at our age and the fact that it’s against foreign opposition is a real bonus for us because they do approach games differently sometimes. 

“It will be interesting for us to see what sort of formations they’ll play, and also what sort of players each club has got.”
