U23s Relishing Man City Test

Steve Beaglehole says playing at Etihad Stadium will be a brilliant experience for his side, as they face Manchester City in Premier League 2 on Friday 23 September (7pm kick-off).
The clash with the Manchester outfit is the fourth of five-straight away games, with the last coming against Southampton at their Staplewood Training Ground on Monday evening.

City’s Premier League 2 campaign runs alongside involvement the Checkatrade Trophy, Premier League International Cup and Premier League Cup, while a number of players will continue to take part in the UEFA Youth League.

It is a busy fixture schedule that Beaglehole believes is of high importance to his players’ development, as they continue to learn their trade at the Club’s Category 1 Academy.

“We’re hoping that at the end of this run of away fixtures, we’ve got some points on the board,” Beaglehole said. “We’ve had a lot of away games and some of the lads were involved in the Youth League game at Club Brugge too.

“It’s a fantastic privilege to be playing at a main stadium, not least Etihad Stadium. It’s one of the best grounds in not just England, but in Europe too.

“Manchester City are a club that have really pushed on in the last few years and they’ve put a marker down for a lot of clubs around the country. They’ve got a group of young, talented players who they’re trying to push on into their first team and that’s our main aim too.

“We’ve got some great sides in this league, but we want to be playing these games because it tests our players. Facing the likes of Man City, Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United is brilliant and that bar just keeps getting raised higher and higher.”
