Beaglehole Heaps Praise On Spirited U23s

- Yohan Benalouane netted a header to break the deadlock, before Cameron Humphreys equalised for the hosts late on 

- The result proved to be the Foxes’ second straight Premier League 2 draw 

It was his side's fighting spirit that most pleased Development Squad manager Steve Beaglehole following their 1-1 Premier League 2 draw against Manchester City. 

The Foxes broke the deadlock after just six minutes at Etihad Stadium through Yohan Benalouane, who played 90 minutes as part of his return to fitness. 

A determined, defensive display followed from Beaglehole’s outfit, but Cameron Humphreys’ late strike earned a point for the hosts. 

Reflecting on the draw, Beaglehole told LCFC TV: “It was a fantastic performance and I’m delighted especially here at Etihad Stadium where they’re put one or two very good players in. 

“I thought our young team along with Benalouane showed great team ethic and fighting spirit, so we’re delighted about that too. 

“We’ve got some tired legs out there having played a number of times in such a short period, and some will be playing in the Youth League on Tuesday also. 

“We’re disappointed that we didn’t hold out for the win because we want that first win, but we’ve turned the corner and we want to turn those draws into victories.” 

The result saw City record their second-straight draw away from home following Monday’s 2-2 draw at Southampton. 

Beaglehole added: “Going to both Southampton and Manchester City – two very difficult places – in the space of five days and not getting beat will go a long way to give us confidence as a group. 

“It was a fair result against Man City. They stretched us and there’s some wonderful players in that team – some great athletes. 

“We’ve been stretched to the limit, but we didn’t fold, so I’m very pleased with that aspect.”
