Johnson Stars As England U19s Reach Euro Semi-Finals

Darnell Johnson came off the bench as the England Under-19s defeated Germany 4-1 on Sunday evening to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Euro U19 Championships as Group B winners.
More on this story...

- Darnell Johnson was a first half substitute during the England Under-19s' 4-1 victory over Germany
- The young Lions qualified for the semi-finals of the UEFA Euro U19 Championships as Group B winners
- Keith Downing's England will now take on the Czech Republic on Wednesday night (5:15pm kick-off)

On the back of Leicester City’s HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens Main Cup success in Hong Kong, the 18-year-old centre back replaced Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah in the sixth minute at the David Petriashvili Stadium in Tbilisi. Ben Brereton and Ryan Sessegnon both struck twice for Keith Downing’s side to confirm their status as Group B winners with a 100 per cent record.

The young Lions will face Group A runners-up Czech Republic on Wednesday night having scored seven goals and conceded just once in their three matches this summer. Johnson, who has represented his country at Under-16s and Under-17s level, was previously an unused substitute during England’s victories over Bulgaria and the Netherlands earlier this month.

Johnson’s call-up to the squad was a reward for his hugely impressive campaign with the Development Squad in Premier League 2 Division 1. Young Foxes team-mates Alex Pascanu (Romania Under-21s), Harvey Barnes and Elliott Moore (England Under-20s) have also tasted international action this summer on the back of their achievements for City last term.

You can follow Johnson's progress on LCFC.com throughout the summer.
