We Gave Everything, Says James

Matty James applauded his Leicester City team-mates for their tireless efforts during the 3-0 triumph over Huddersfield Town on New Year’s Day.

Second-half strikes from Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani and Marc Albrighton proved enough for City to start the year with a convincing win at King Power Stadium.

What stood out most for James was the determination the Foxes showed against David Wagner’s men following back-to-back losses to Watford and Liverpool.

“We’re over the moon coming off a couple of defeats,” James told LCFC TV. “Obviously, we got a good draw against Manchester United and we just tried to build on it really.

After the first 10 or 15 minutes, they got back into the game and then we went into half-time on top. We came out for the second half and we punished them.

“Liverpool was a tough game but we’ve put a right shift in today. We passed the ball around really nicely and we deserved the result.

“We knew it was an important game. We went out there and we gave it our all. It’s a tough time for quite a lot of the lads playing so many games in quick succession.

“It’s the same Huddersfield as well, so we tried to counter on that and we did really well. After the first 10 or 15 minutes, they got back into the game and then we went into half-time on top. We came out for the second half and we punished them.”

Matty James makes way for Adrien Silva after notching up over 80 minutes against Huddersfield.

James made his first start for the Club since 9 September following an Achilles injury and says he is looking forward to more potential action over the coming weeks.

“It was good for me,” added the central midfielder. “It was one of those things where I was just waiting for an opportunity and I was trying to play for as long as I could.

“It was good to see Adrien [Silva] finally on the pitch too – that was really good. Personally, it’s just about building again. I felt good in the game so hopefully I can continue in that form.”
