Puel: Everton Are Talented, But We Will Focus

Claude Puel says Leicester City will be facing a much different Everton side to the one they defeated 2-0 at King Power Stadium in October when they head to Goodison Park on Wednesday evening.

During his maiden game in charge, Puel’s Foxes defeated caretaker manager David Unsworth’s outfit thanks to first-half strikes from Jamie Vardy and Demarai Gray.

Since then, Puel believes the composition of the squad has significantly changed following the appointment of Sam Allardyce as manager.

The Toffees have not won in their last seven outings in all competitions, but City’s boss knows they still have a wealth of talent at their disposal.

“I think it’s a great team with quality in the squad,” Puel told the media on Monday afternoon. “I know they [spent] £200 million in the last 12 months to buy fantastic players with quality.

“We know this team is dangerous with a lot of quality. We have to have a good focus and concentration about this team.

“It’s not the same team like in my first game with Leicester. They were not in good confidence but now they play well with confidence and it will be a tough game.”

For his side’s Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round clash with Peterborough United, Puel made 10 changes to his starting XI – a decision that paid dividends as the Foxes cruised to a 5-1 win at the ABAX Stadium.

It’s not the same team like in my first game with Leicester. They were not in good confidence but now they play well with confidence and it will be a tough game.

He added: “Before the game, I wanted to pick a team to win the game. For me, it was a first priority to feel we could have a team with good balance to win the game.

“It is the most important thing, of course. After, it’s always important to give some game time for the other players, young or experienced players.

“All of this will give good confidence for the players and strength for the squad. We cannot play, I repeat, with just 11 players.”
