Timing Of Goals Key, Says Simpson

Despite falling behind early on following a Raheem Sterling strike, the Foxes were level midway through the first period thanks to Jamie Vardy’s 13th Premier League goal of the season.

But Sergio Aguero scored the first of four second-half goals just three minutes after the interval and from then on, Pep Guardiola’s men were simply unstoppable.

“They’re a fantastic team,” Simpson told LCFC TV. “Top players playing on top of their game but at the same time it’s disappointing.

“It’s 1-1, back in it at half-time. To concede a few minutes into the second half, it just kills you. Even then, you don’t want to concede again.

Simpson Reflects On Man City Defeat

Danny Simpson talks to LCFC TV following Saturday's loss to Manchester City.

“You have to just keep it tight and try and go as long as you can at 2-1. Everyone knows, a couple of mistakes against a team like this and you get punished.

“I think we all know, as professional players, away against a team like this, you have to give it 10 minutes and let the game settle, not concede and feel your way into it.

“But once they go 1-0 up or 2-1 up, they can just keep the ball, keep it moving and drop deep. Whereas if its 1-1 you know they’re going to try and score and that leaves space for Vards (Jamie Vardy) up front to counter like we did for the first goal.”

While naturally disappointed with the result, Simpson recorded two more significant personal milestones after making his 200th appearance in the Premier League and his 100th in the top flight for the Foxes.

“It’s a great achievement,” added Simpson. “I didn’t know until the other day. It’s great to get 100 for Leicester and 200 overall.

“It’s just a shame it’s on a day like today. I’ll keep going and try and get as many as I can.”
