Evans: A Challenge We Can Rise To

- Former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has backed his new side to get a result from their first fixture of 2018/19
- The Northern Ireland international highlighted the squad’s talent as a reason for his optimism

Evans could make his Foxes debut against former side Manchester United on Saturday 11 August, when the new campaign gets underway.

City have a productive record on the opening day of the season having won six of their previous 10 games and Evans believes his new side have the potential to add to that at Old Trafford.

Evans said: “Looking at the fixtures, Manchester United away in our first game will of course be a tough one, but it’s the type of challenge that this team has risen to on many occasions before.

“Having spent a large part of my career at Old Trafford, I know how they can punish teams, but with the players we have here at Leicester, I’ve no doubt we can go there and get a result.”

 A maiden home appearance could also follow a week later and having already played at King Power Stadium as an opponent, Evans knows the Blue Army can generate a fantastic atmosphere. 

“I also had one eye on the first home game,” he added. “I’ve played at King Power Stadium as an away player before and I know what a great atmosphere the fans create. The prospect of walking out with a Leicester City shirt on for the first time is a really exciting one for me.

“There’s so much talent throughout the squad here, which is part of the reason I wanted to come, so between now and that first game against United, I’ll be doing absolutely everything I can to make sure I’m ready to help the team if called upon and show the Leicester City supporters what I can do.”
