Puel: Gray's Injury Not Serious

Claude Puel has confirmed that Leicester City's Demarai Gray will be ruled out with an ankle injury for a minimum of three weeks.

- Demarai Gray will be sidelined for between three and six weeks after sustaining an ankle injury at Wolverhampton Wanderers, says Claude Puel
- The England winger was forced off at Molineux in the Carabao Cup
- Puel says only Gray and Matty James will be absent at Newcastle United on Saturday
- The Frenchman says Çağlar Söyüncü is available for selection and is settling in at the Club

The 22-year-old winger was withdrawn from Tuesday’s Carabao Cup Third Round penalty shoot-out victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the latter moments of normal time.

Gray's foot was caught as he attempted to block a cross from Adama Traoré at Molineux – and Puel says it is a sprain and nothing more serious.

“He is better this morning but I think he will remain for between three and six weeks out of the squad,” the Foxes boss told the national media on Thursday.

Gray came off at the end at Wolves on Tuesday.

“We will see if he can recover quicker or not. It’s not a serious injury but he needs a rest and rehabilitation. He will not be available for us for a minimum of three weeks.”

It means that Gray – alongside Matty James (Achilles) – will be absent for Saturday’s visit to St James’ Park to tackle Newcastle United (3pm BST kick-off).

Puel also revealed that Turkey defender Çağlar Söyüncü can step in when required after the joining the Club this summer.

Çağlar is ready and he is improving his English, which is important for him to communicate with his team-mates and to share ideas.

“He’s ready to give good service, but we also have experienced players with [Wes] Morgan, [Harry] Maguire and [Jonny] Evans.

“Çağlar is ready and he is improving his English, which is important to communicate with his team-mates and to share ideas.

“It’s important to know that he is a young player and he can wait at times but he is close to the team and is available if we have a problem in the team.”
