On Saturday, the Foxes battled to a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, despite playing over an hour with 10 men, while the Saints were defeated 3-2 by Fulham at Craven Cottage.

While Mark Hughes’ men currently sit 18th in the Premier League table, Fuchs believes that will not be a reflection of the way they approach Tuesday’s fixture on Filbert Way.

However, the Austrian insists that will not affect City’s pre-match preparations as they attempt to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Fuchs told CITY Matchday Magazine: “I’ve always felt that if you’ve not had a good start in the Premier League, games like these provide a good opportunity to test players or kick-start an upturn in fortune.

“We can’t concern ourselves with how Southampton approach the game, as however they approach it, we’ll be in for a tough match.

“If they’re looking to recover form, they’ll arguably pose a bigger threat than usual. In the end, it comes down to us. We care about our game more than theirs.”

Left-back Fuchs views the fixture as a chance to notch up some match minutes, having played in both Carabao Cup games this term.

When you look at our team at the moment, whoever is playing, there isn’t really a weak side. Everybody can replace everybody - we could actually put two really good sides out on the pitch.

“It’s always nice to get some match time when you’re not playing as much in the Premier League,” Fuchs added.

“Whenever I get the opportunity, or whenever the manager needs me, I’m here and will always be trying to give my best. That never changes, that’s my mentality.

“When you look at our team at the moment, whoever is playing, there isn’t really a weak side. Everybody can replace everybody - we could actually put two really good sides out on the pitch.

“That’s something that has developed during my time here. The size of the squad and the quality of it has really improved.”
