Tielemans Strikes & Assists In Belgium Win

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans scored once and set up another goal during Belgium’s convincing 9-0 victory over San Marino in Brussels on Thursday night.

The 22-year-old assisted Internazionale striker Romelu Lukaku for the Red Devils opener, before efforts from Nacer Chadli and Toby Alderweireld, another from Lukaku and Cristian Brolli’s own goal put the hosts 5-0 up.

Tielemans was then on target for Belgium’s sixth of the evening in first-half added time, while substitutes Christian Benteke and Yari Verschaeren and Timothy Castagne rounded off the scoring.

Roberto Martínez’s men sit top of Group I of UEFA 2020 European Championships qualifying having won all seven of their games, and next face Kazakhstan at the Astana Stadium on Sunday 13 October (2pm kick-off).

Fellow Foxes midfielder Dennis Praet was unused in the victory at the King Baudouin Stadium.

Jonny Evans, meanwhile, impressed throughout 90 minutes of entertaining football for Northern Ireland in their late 3-1 defeat by the Netherlands in Rotterdam.

Hull City’s Josh Magennis gave Michael O’Neill’s side a 1-0 lead at De Kuip with with 15 minutes to play, before Lyon forward Memphis Depay restored parity, Luuk de Jong struck in the second minute of injury time and Depay added a second shortly after.

The reverse sees Evans’ nation suffer their first loss in 2020 European Championships qualifying Group C, where they sit third with 12 points from six outings.

On Monday 14 October, Northern Ireland head to the Generali Arena in Prague to face the Czech Republic in an international friendly (6pm kick-off).

Young centre-back Lukáš Hušek played from start to finish for Czech Republic Under-20s in their UEFA U19 2019 European Championships Elite Round qualifier against Switzerland Under-20s.

The City Under-18s defender’s nation claimed their first point at Stadion FC Solothurn in a group which they contest with Under-20s national sides from Italy, England, Portugal and Germany.

Hušek could next be in action for Czech Republic Under-20s when they face England Under-20s at Peterborough United’s Weston Homes Stadium on Monday 14 October (7pm kick-off).

Danny Ward, meanwhile, was unused from the bench during Wales’ 1-1 2020 European Championships qualifying draw with 10-man Slovakia at the City Arena in Trnava.

An early effort from Kieffer Moore handed the Welsh a 1-0 lead, only for Juraj Kucka to level matters during the opening 10 minutes of the second period.

Norbert Gyomber was then dismissed for the hosts with two minutes to play, but Wales couldn’t find a winning goal in Slovakia.

Further international involvement could follow for five other Foxes on Friday, with Ben Chilwell, Ricardo Pereira, Çağlar Söyüncü, James Justin and Will Russ all potentially in action for their countries.
