We Keep Our Momentum, Says Chilwell

Leicester City’s fourth-straight victory in all competitions will see them carry their momentum into Saturday’s Premier League encounter with Arsenal, according to Ben Chilwell.

City’s 2-0 triumph against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park saw Çağlar Söyüncü and Jamie Vardy find the back of the net in the second period to help them move back up to third in the Premier League standings.

Chilwell, who could have had a goal of his own after hitting the inside of the post in injury time, says the Foxes had to be clinical against a Palace side that have been notoriously difficult to face in recent seasons.

He told LCFC TV: “We said in the changing room [that we were] maybe even better than last week.

“I know, obviously, last week was 9-0 but, coming here, we knew it was going to be tough and they made it difficult for us throughout the whole game and to get a clean sheet and score two really good goals is a massive win and keeps our momentum going forward.

Chilwell Hails Massive Win

Ben Chilwell was delighted to come back from Selhurst Park with three points after a difficult test against Crystal Palace.

“We’ve come here the last two seasons and lost both times. So, we knew it was going to be a difficult game, it's a tough place to come so we knew if we were solid at the back and we created a few chances that with the strike force we've got, they'd be clinical, and they were.”

Söyüncü’s first goal for the Football Club came just before the hour mark, and after playing alongside him on nine occasions in the Premier League this campaign, the England left-back has been impressed in all aspects by the central defender.

“He's just the best guy,” said Chilwell of Söyüncü. “Football aside, he's one of the nicest people off the pitch and then obviously his football talks for itself. He's a great player, he's got everything.

“He's a great guy to play with, good off the pitch, he's fit right in this season and done a brilliant job for us and [I’m] really happy for him to get a goal.

The subs are coming on and making a big impact and closing out the game for us really well and like you say it's a great finish from Vards as well.

“You see the amount of headers he wins, where they're trying to lump the ball up and get flick-ons, and it makes it difficult in the game if they win them flick-ons and we're running back to our own goal.

“So, for him to win, him and Jonny [Evans], both of them were superb and for them to win the majority of their headers makes it a lot easier for the rest of us.”

Vardy, meanwhile, took his 2019/20 Premier League tally to 10 goals in 11 games after sealing the triumph with neat finish following some brilliant play from substitute Demarai Gray.

“Vards (Jamie Vardy) gets one chance and he scores!” said Chilwell. “We know the quality he's got and he's flying at the moment and [he’s] brilliant. I think I said it last week in an interview, the subs that come into the games have always been brilliant for us.

Goals: Crystal Palace 0 Leicester City 2

Goals from Çağlar Söyüncü and Jamie Vardy seal a 2-0 success for Leicester City at Selhurst Park.

Dennis [Praet] has come on today and has nearly got an assist. Obviously, Dimi's (Demarai Gray) come on and got an assist. The subs are coming on and making a big impact and closing out the game for us really well and like you say it's a great finish from Vards as well.”

Having netted in the 9-0 victory at Southampton, Chilwell came just inches away from scoring in back-to-back Premier League games, but he couldn’t find the net after a pin-point pass from Dennis Praet.

“I came off the pitch and had a little laugh with the gaffer and obviously it's a great win but in the back of my head I would have loved another goal today,” he added.

“But the three points and a clean sheet is the most important thing and it was a great team performance to come here and those scrappy games are the ones you want to win and they’re the games where, seasons gone by, we might have not won them.”
