Classic Encounter: Vardy Nets First Home Foxes Goal In Burnley Comeback

Leicester City's second outing of the 2020/21 Premier League season is a home encounter with Burnley, who the Foxes memorably defeated 2-1 in the 2012/13 season.
More on this story...

The Foxes got off to the perfect start last weekend, beating West Bromwich Albion 3-0 at the Hawthorns, with new signing Timothy Castagne getting on the scoresheet, alongside two penalties from Jamie Vardy.

Next up, the Clarets are set to visit King Power Stadium on Sunday (7pm BST kick-off), which will be City's first home game of new campaign.

The Foxes defeated Burnley in this fixture last season, coming from behind to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Youri Tielmans and Vardy.

City's number nine was also involved in the scoring when the the two sides met in the Sky Bet Championship back in 2012, which forms our latest classic encounter...

David Nugent's close range finish got Leicester back on level terms early in the second period.

City produced a stunning second-half comeback to defeat Burnley and keep their 100% home record intact near the beginning of the 2012/13 season.

Nigel Pearson made three changes from the side that lost at Wolverhampton Wanderers in their previous fixture, but Leicester were up against it after Dean Marney's early strike put the visitors ahead 10 minutes in.

Martin Paterson moved down the right before cutting the ball back for Marney to guide home his second goal of the season from 10 yards out.

However, former Clarets forward David Nugent, who hit the woodwork just before half-time, came back to haunt his former club, scoring the equaliser from close range soon after the restart.

Ben Marshall's long throw-in was flicked on by Vardy and Nugent pounced to bundle the ball home, opening his account for the campaign.

The Foxes No.9 netted his first home goal for the Club in a comeback victory over Burnley.

Then, 10 minutes later, came Vardy's first goal at King Power Stadium, a neat finish fired in from an acute angle, which completed the comeback and ultimately handed City all three points.

There was a late scare when Sam Vokes hit the post late on, but the Foxes held firm to move up nine places in the early Championship standings.

Leicester would go on to sneak into the end of season play-offs, finishing sixth, before being knocked out in the semi-finals by Watford, while Burnley ended the campaign in 11th.
