Qualifiers & Individual Milestones - Wrapping Up City's International Involvement

Several Leicester City players graced the international stage across the latest fixture window in March.

- Papy Mendy, Patson Daka, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho involved in AFCON qualifying 
- Timothy Castagne, Wout Faes, James Maddison, Danny Ward and Çağlar Söyüncü feature in EURO qualifiers
- Harry Souttar and Luke Thomas play in friendlies for Australia and England Under-21s respectively

Papy Mendy's Senegal confirmed qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024 via successive wins over Mozambique, maintaining their 100 per cent Group L record of four from four so far.

The City midfielder started a 5-1 triumph for the Lions of Teranga, playing 64 minutes, before being introduced late on in the away fixture to win his 25th cap and help his side to a 1-0 success.

Timothy Castagne and Wout Faes were in from the off for Belgium's trip to Sweden as their UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying began with a 3-0 success at Friends Arena in Stockholm.

Then visiting Germany for a friendly in Köln, the pair both started again, with Foxes team-mate Dennis Praet on the bench once more, as the Red Devils recorded a 3-2 win.

Timothy Castagne was also involved for the Red Devils.

Wales remain unbeaten and top their qualifying group having collected four points from six. Goalkeeper Danny Ward played 90 minutes in both fixtures, keeping a clean sheet during the 1-0 win over Latvia in Cardiff, after making his 30th Welsh appearance in a 1-1 draw against Croatia.

Another Fox to feature throughout both of their Group D EURO qualifiers was centre-back Çağlar Söyüncü, who helped Turkey to defeat Armenia 2-1, before losing out 2-0 to Croatia in Bursa. Söyüncü’s national side sit third in Group D.

Patson Daka scored both goals to help steer Zambia to a 2-0 success over Lesotho in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, lifting Avram Grant's side into top spot in Group H.

South Africa hosted the second meeting between the sides in three days, following Zambia's 3-1 triumph in Ndola.

City's No.10 on his first start for his country.

This time around, Daka took centre stage, opening the scoring a quarter of an hour into the contest, adding his second with just over 20 minutes remaining.

James Maddison made his full senior international debut in England's fixture against Ukraine at Wembley. Gareth Southgate's men emerged 2-0 victors in their second 2024 qualifier, following up a narrow win in Italy, for which City’s No.10 was an unused substitute, to sit top of Group C with a 100 per cent record. 

Luke Thomas made a substitute appearance during England Under-21s' 4-0 win over France at King Power Stadium. The full-back was in from the off for the Young Lions against Croatia, in a 2-1 reverse at Craven Cottage.

Daniel Amartey was given the captaincy as his nation picked up four points from two matches with Angola in Africa Cup of Nations qualification.

The Foxes centre-back helped his nation to victory in a friendly encounter.

Ghana snatched a 1-0 win six minutes into added time in a match where the Foxes defender kept a clean sheet and brought up his half century of international appearances. The Black Stars remain top of Group E following a 1-1 draw against their group rivals in Luanda.

Wilfred Ndidi also captained Nigeria, while Kelechi Iheanacho was another starter, as the Super Eagles lost out to Guinea-Bissau in their third AFCON qualification group match at Abuja National Stadium.

Nigeria reversed the 1-0 scoreline away from home, with Ndidi introduced as a late substitute, to place them top of Group A with nine points.

Elsewhere, there was a 3-1 win for Australia at CommBank Stadium in Sydney, with Foxes centre-back Harry Souttar playing 90 minutes of the international friendly against Ecuador, earning his 15th cap.
