King Continues City's International Involvement

Andy King featured for over an hour as Wales were denied a place in the World Cup play-offs by a 1-0 loss to the Republic of Ireland on Monday.
More on this story...

- Andy King earned his 43rd cap for Wales against the Republic of Ireland on Monday
- Chris Coleman's side missed out on the World Cup play-offs with a 1-0 defeat in Cardiff
- Aleksandar Dragović did not feature for Austria during a 1-0 success over Moldova
- Another five Leicester City players are set for international action on Tuesday

King, the only player in Leicester City’s history to earn 43 international caps while on the Club’s books, was replaced at Cardiff City Stadium by Ben Woodburn after 65 minutes.

Seven minutes beforehand, however, James McClean scored the only goal of the game with a half-volley from 18 yards, a strike which carried significant ramifications.

Over 1,600 miles away, former City striker Andrej Kramarić scored a brace for Croatia to seal a 2-0 victory in Ukraine - meaning not even a draw would be enough for Wales.

Chris Coleman’s side had started the evening with hopes of leapfrogging Serbia into first place in European Group D and securing automatic qualification for Russia 2018.

However, in Belgrade, top spot was settled when Serbia’s Aleksandar Prijovic broke the deadlock after 74 minutes to help his country beat Georgia 1-0.

As a result, Wales finish third with 17 points while Martin O'Neill's Ireland (19) progress to the play-offs and Serbia (21) book their place at next summer's showpiece.

Also in European Group D, Aleksandar Dragović, on loan at City from Bayer Leverkusen, did not feature for Austria during their 1-0 success over Moldova at Stadionul Zimbru.

On Tuesday, Daniel Amartey’s Ghana face Saudi Arabia in Kumasi. England’s U21s, who have Demarai Gray in their ranks, will travel to Andorra for their latest UEFA U21 EURO first qualifying round tie.

Aidy Boothroyd's side are top of Group 4 after two victories and a draw from their opening three clashes, three points above Ukraine U21s.

Last week, left back Ben Chilwell was forced to withdraw from the young Lions squad with a knee injury before a 3-1 win over Scotland in Middlesbrough.

Daniel Iversen’s Denmark U21s, leaders of Group 3, travel to Finland. Meanwhile, the England U20s, Darnell Johnson and Harvey Barnes among them, take on the Czech Republic at St George’s Park.
